The health care law aims to make health coverage more affordable and accessible for individuals and families. In the Guam, some changes have already taken place. What You Need to Know About Health Care in Guam

  • Residents of Guam are not required to buy insurance under the health care law.
  • In 2011, those in the Medicare Part D “doughnut hole” will automatically receive a 50 percent discount on certain name-brand drugs and a 7 percent discount on generic drugs.
  • Insurance companies can’t deny health coverage to kids with pre-existing conditions.
  • Insurance companies can’t put dollar limits on the care that is covered in your lifetime.
  • If you are a small business owner in Guam and your business does trade or other business within the United States, you may claim the small business tax credit to help pay the premiums for your employees’ health care, as long as the health care plan is provided is one that is provided by one of the 50 U.S. States or the District of Columbia.

    Children’s Health Insurance Program and Medicaid

    Medicare
    If you are 65 or older, you may qualify for Medicare.

    Medically Indigent Program (MIP)
    If you are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, you may be able to get assistance from the MIP that is run by the Department of Public Health and Social Services.
